FIELDS OF EXPERIENCE:

Dr. Reynolds has developed an extensive background in analytical, practical, and experimental techniques associate with acoustics, vibration, and noise and vibration control. He has taught university courses in the areas of linear systems, design, kinematics and dynamics of machines, mechanical measurements and experimental techniques, vibrations, and acoustics. He is the author of the text, Engineering Principles of Acoustics - Noise and Vibration Control, published by Allyn and Bacon. He has worked to develop computer programs, techniques, and procedures where microcomputers can be used to more efficiently complete engineering analysis and data gathering and processing. Dr. Reynolds has worked with trade associations and governmental agencies in developing test procedures for vibration measurements of hand-held power tools and of the human hand and arm. He has developed extensive mathematical models of the vibration response characteristics of the hand and arm. He has developed and patented an air bladder technology that can be used in gloves and on tool handles to reduce the vibration energy directed into the hands from vibrating hand tools. His work in these areas has received both national and international recognition. He has worked in the areas of environmental noise that deal with land use planning and determining the noise effects of airports on surrounding communities. Dr. Reynolds has worked in the area of heating, ventilating, and air conditioning noise control in buildings and in the area of aircraft cabin noise reduction. He is the author of the Trane Acoustics Program and the HVAC Acoustics Program for Windows 95 on predictive acoustics for HVAC systems. He is the co-author of the book, Algorithms for HVAC Acoustics, published by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers. He is the author of the books, Sound and Vibration Design and Analysis and Procedural Standard for Acoustic and Vibration Calculations and Measurements for Environmental Systems, published by the National Environmental Balancing Bureau. Dr. Reynolds has extensive experience in the area of architectural acoustics as it pertains to the design of noise-sensitive areas in buildings, such as auditoriums, theaters, church sanctuaries, broadcasting and recording studios, and multi-function areas. Dr. Reynolds is the founder and Director of the Center for Mechanical & Environmental Systems Technology in the Howard R. Hughes College of Engineering. This center has gained both national and international recognition as a premier center for testing and conducting research in the areas of HVAC acoustics and airflow characteristics of HVAC system elements and of hand-arm and hand tool vibration.
